Lots of exciting things have been going on in GATE! I am always on the lookout for new tech gadgets and ideas for my students to use to share their research and information. I have found a new digital tool called SMORE to create beautiful digital flyers. Our latest GATE Newsletter has been created using the SMORE website. Please check out our latest adventures in GATE as well as this new digital tool that some of our General Applications projects will be using in class!

The gifted education program at Albertville Elementary School is called G.A.T.E. (Gifted and Talented Enrichment). Third and fourth grade identified gifted students attend gifted pullout enrichment classes 3-4 hours per week in Mrs. Adams' classroom. Students participate in concept-based units, projects and units based on students' interests, and research using the Apple technology in our classroom.

Our latest masterpieces...Torn Paper Self-Portraits!
I love students' artwork! I really do! It just makes me happy! Personalities of the students really shine through this art activity. Students tear scraps of construction paper to create an image of themselves. These look so much like the students!
We paint their hands in the color of their choice for the mat around the pictures and they are precious! These portraits will decorate the hall outside my classroom for a while ... then they will come home. I hope you will find a place for these pictures on your refrigerator, in a frame, or propped up where you all can enjoy your child's work of art!
Please enjoy this slideshow below of the creating of these self-portraits and the final product!

Glue Pastel Portraits
Fourth grade GATE students created this year's self-portraits out of large black construction paper, glue, and pastels. The end product is FABULOUS! I absolutely LOVE these portraits! These works of art will be hung in the AES hall and in the media center for several weeks then will be sent home for families to enjoy. Children's artwork is so special and unique. It makes me happy and I hope it does you, too! Below are a couple of photographs of the art and a slideshow of students creating these masterpieces! Enjoy.

Torn Paper Self Portraits...GORGEOUS!
Third grade GATE students have completed their torn paper self-portraits and they are beautiful! Made only from torn scraps of construction paper and glue, these works of art are sure to brighten anyone's day! Each student painted handprints around the border of each portrait. One group of 3rd grade portraits is on display in the hall right now and the other set will be displayed soon! I hope all the families will enjoy this artwork when it comes home soon! Enjoy the slideshow below of the 3rd grade students creating their art.

Torn Paper Self-Portraits
Third grade GATE students created self-portraits using torn paper, glue, and paint! They are beautiful! It is amazing to see how their personalities come out and their portraits REALLY look like the kids. We had a great time creating these in class! Half of the portraits are decorating the hall and the other half will go up soon! I know you will all enjoy having this fabulous piece of art created by your child at home! Kids' artwork just makes me happy! Be sure to watch the photo slideshow of the kids and their art!
